Magic Johnson’s network Aspire Tv, known for its portrayal of Black and urban culture, launched a new web series “The Graduates NYC” on October 8, 2016 inside the network’s coverage of HBCU football games while also rolling out online.
“The Graduates NYC” looks into the lives of Chasity (FAMU graduate), Kian ( NCCU Graduate) Herman (Morehouse Graduate), Emilee (NCA&T Graduate), Ian (Hampton University Graduate), and Brittney (Howard University Graduate) who are all keeping up flavorful lives and wardrobes in the Big Apple.
Each graduate has their own distinctive style that’s highlighted in the show. Whether it’s debonair, urban chic, eclectic or classic each graduates appearance can be directly related to their personality on the show.
THE SOUTHERN BELLE: CHASITY LOGAN
Chasity embraces the traditional values of a “Southern Belle” but is not afraid to try new things as a millennial and this is expressed in her fashion. Chasity’s “got-to” is pure white and a pink lip with Farrah Fawcett curls and diamonds and pearls just like a southern belle should.Chasity isn’t afraid, however, to show a little skin. A cold shoulder blouse or sleeveless little black dress would do the trick to keep her southern beau interested.
When it comes to business, Chasity does not play around. Her classic black always sets the tone whether it be a leather jacket and a red lip, or a black business casual dress and a nude lip. Chasity has proven that versatility is second nature.
THE DEBONAIR SPORTIF: KIAN BROWN
Kian is aware that in today’s world, everything is a give and take that partnership is essential to becoming one. Kian’s perfect merge of business casual and formal gives him the title of the sporty debonair or Debonair Sportif.
Although Kian is a successful professional, he is not afraid of expressing himself freely or dressing for the occasion. He can wear nice collared shirts that reveal his tattoo’s or an all black attire to stay in touch with the youth.
THE CLASSIC MAN: HERMAN RILEY
Herman is no doubt the classic man mind, body and fashion! He gives the sensible aspects of life that will always stay in style and his fashion is directly related. He is the epitome of a Morehouse man.
While Herman’s fashion is classic, he is not afraid to say on trend with the latest. Prints are his expertise and he wears them well.
THE CONSCIOUS ECLECTIC: EMILEE CHRISTOPHER
Emilee is extremely aware of the ways of the world. She has her views that may or may not contradict with the majority of society but she stands by them which makes her unique and stand out in any room and her eclectic style is right there with her.
Bold colors and bright jewelry with stripes and other various patterns create a distinct look that Emilee rocks on any given day. But she knows how to make this eclectic style classic and business ready with black and white stripes or a high bun.
THE URBAN OUTFITTER ENTREPRENEUR: IAN DAVIS
Ian is the cutting edge hustler that breaks barriers whenever he puts his mind to a project. His unconventional tactics allow him to stay on top as an entrepreneur. Ian embraces who he is in entirety and as a result raises the bar on what is acceptable in the professional world. The essence of a New Yorker.
Solid colors and darker shades are his forte when beating the pavement and making moves, but don’t be mislead. When it’s time for an event or a launch, Ian cleans up well with a fresh clean cut shirt and pants redefining the word “Business Casual”.
THE CHOCOLATE GODDESS PROFESSIONAL: BRITTNEY BLACKMON
Brittney is about business. She is straightforward and to the point and her poignant pieces reflect her persona perfectly. Black is back and better than ever when she wears her pieces. She is not afraid of a plunging neckline or a metallic blouse.
Speaking of fearless, Brittney is the definition. Whether it is a bold pink to pop on her godiva skin or bold jewelry, she is not afraid to stand up and stand out.
